Newport RI Ballard Park

Volunteer Opportunities

BOARD & COMMITTEE OPPORTUNITIES
On the Board
The board of directors is an eclectic group of people who are dedicated to preserving, protecting and maintaining Ballard Park. Its goals including enhancing the providing for an exceptional passive cultural, historical and educational resource.

Naturalists
We are always looking for interesting programming opportunities. Are you a birder? Lead a walk in Ballard Park. Expert on wild flowers? We'd love to learn more! Help us share the natural world with the public!

On A Committee
If you have limited time but would still live to get involved,
join a committee and work with our board of directors on a
fundraiser, event or our organization's long term strategies.

The STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE
works with staff and members of the City’s Parks Department to create a public awareness program that promotes Ballard Park’s trail system, educates the public regarding the plant and animal life at the park and restores park grassland and pond systems. It will also develop and document an annual work plan which identifies maintenance needs, the general health
of plants and animals as well as practices that would improve the park. Additionally, larger capital projects will be recognized so that funding may be raised to undergo needed work. Birders, herbalists, gardeners, people with knowledge of wildlife, water management or a general interest in landscape preservation are encouraged to call.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The committee will work with staff to build upon current programming and develop a five year plan which results in every Newport public school student visiting the park at least once per year and encourages participation from private schools and community partners.

JUNE FUNDRAISER COMMITTEE
Help us plan a fundraiser for Friends of Ballard Park. Committee members attend the event (tickets are $125), secure silent auction items and recruit other people to attend the event.

Friends of Ballard Park attributes much of its success to the many volunteers who have helped the organization over the years. From the first board members to everyone who sets up pumpkins at the Annual Ballard Park Pumpkin Tour, our organization is able to grow because of the generous support of members of the community.

At many of our events we need help setting up or monitoring the trails. Call 619.3377 if you are interested in volunteering or e-mail us at info@ballardpark.org
