About MOVIES ON THE ROCKS
Newport's first “Green Drive-In” debuted in Ballard Park's Quarry Meadow in 2006. Each Summer Friends of Ballard Park hosts outdoor movie screening reminiscent of the days of the drive-in ... only its totally green - no cars or gas needed and lots of green space!

Movie goers are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair and picnic dinner to Ballard Park's three acre quarry meadow and enjoy a night at the movies. Thanks to generous sponsors MOVIES ON THE ROCKS is another free series offered in Newport's Only Nature Preserve.

Close to nine hundred people attended four movie screenings in 2017. MOVIES ON THE ROCKS opened on Wednesday, August 2nd with a screening of Finding Dory . Prior to the film, movie goers had fun visiting with representatives from Clean Ocean Access and URI's Tick Encounter Resource Center. Both organizations had great information about spotting ticks and keeping our ocean clean.

Tim Burton's eighties classic Beetlejuice was the most well attended with 355 people. Movie goers had fun watching Alfred Hitchcock's thriller, The Birds , under the stars as did sci fi fanatics at Star Wars Rogue One.

Prior to each feature film, FLICKERS Rhode Island International Film Festival provided a short to screen. They included A Tooth Tale, Daisy Chain, Catch It and Snack Attack.
